PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL SPRAY THIS SUMMER

We’re well into summer now, which doesn’t just mean loads of fun in the sun. It can also mean trying out some summer hacks to ensure your vacays and adventures don’t also come along with the pesky downsides of high temps and frequent travel. One major summer hack to try is peppermint essential oil. Yes – what we normally think of as a winter-only scent has myriad uses this time of year.

Peppermint Essential Oil Spray
To Reduce Stress – Peppermint is one of the many essential oils that provide a sense of calm, which is why many people diffuse it in their homes or apply topically. Just a little spritz will keep stress at bay while on the go too.
To Repel Bugs – The one major downside to summer BBQs and camping trips? Bugs! Peppermint oil can repel mosquitos and more whether you spray it, dab it, or whip up a mixture to keep outside.
To Energize – This oil is unique in that unlike chamomile and lavender which also induce calm, peppermint oil is also known to help revive and energize. Both the cooling sensation and the scent itself will refresh, which is super helpful on long, exhausting summer days. (But don’t forget the water!)
To Cool You Down – Speaking of cooling, since peppermint oil has a cooling effect, it’s great to use as a subtle mist on hot days too. Just make sure to dilute properly and perform a spot test first if you haven’t used a spray with peppermint in it before.
To Relieve Sunburns – Let’s hope you’ve all been practicing proper sun care with all the sunscreen tips I’ve shared in the past, but hey – it happens: the dreaded sunburn. If you need relief from an irritating burn, spritz it on as a natural sunburn spray. The cooling effect will provide instant relief, and the healing properties of peppermint will speed recovery.
DIY Peppermint Essential Oil Spray
Fill a spray bottle with water and add two drops of peppermint essential oil for every two ounces of water. Toss in your bag to keep on hand!

THE LOOK: SUMMER SHEER

Just because it’s crazy hot (I don’t know about where you live but temps have hit 90 in both Los Angeles and New York this summer) doesn’t mean all is lost in beauty and fashion. Your daily routine probably consists mostly of staying cool and lathering yourself in SPF—sunscreen is your best friend after all—but a few pieces do exist to highlight your personalized style, without contributing to a meltdown. Enter sheer. Semi sheer fabrics like chiffon, organza and lace overlays are sure to give your closet a makeover, and most importantly, your skin a breather.
The Look: Sheer Styles
Prom Dress with Organza, El Sol Mini Dress, ASOS Romper, Lace Maxi Skirt, Stripe Maxi Skirt,American Apparel Skirt, Lace Trim Tunic, Floral Mesh Kimono, Mesh Tank Top
Sheer Dresses As with most things sheer, there’s a thin line between flirty and straight up revealing. You want something light and airy that’s even a little daring, just not so much that it looks like a cover up without the swimsuit underneath, if you catch my drift (no pun intended). The sheer bubble skirt on the above mini dress, the lace on the sleeve and chest, or the sheer panels on the romper all have that feminine, flirty look. Dresses like this can be rocked at everything from a cocktail party to a beach bonfire, depending on how dressy you want to get. It’s summer – if you feel like dressing up, go for it!

Sheer Skirts – One of the most common types of sheer skirt is the maxi with the solid lining and transparent or lacy overlay. The overlay keeps it from looking as formal as the length might suggest, and it’s the quintessential breezy, beachy look. At the same time, all you have to do is tuck in a long sleeve sweater and this same skirt can be worn well into fall. If sheer fabric is too dramatic for you here, try a skirt where both the lining and overlay drop all the way to the hemline. It’s airy, but full coverage.
Sheer Tops  Gone are the days when the only sheer tops you could find were stuffy oversized blouses from the 90s. When it comes to tops you have a ton of options, like lace lined tunics or panel-blocked tank tops. But the best way to rock a sheer top? A kimono. The kimono look is ideal for transitional weather. It’s perfect for throwing on. A sheer kimono is essential for warm weather and the way to go if you have a cute top on underneath you want to show off.

Wintertime can be hard on the skin. Winter itch, dry skin, and chapped lips can be a huge hassle and annoyance in the winter season.
itchy skin
The main culprit behind skin dryness and irritation is your skin being exposed to the drying effects produced by the combination of indoor heat, wind and outdoor cold temperatures. Luckily, there is a variety of ways you can keep cold, arid weather from wreaking havoc on your skin.

In winter, the best type of moisturizers to use is oil based rather than water based. Choose non-clogging oil like avocado oil, almond oil or mineral oil.

During winter, you can get sunburned which will make your skin even drier. So, it’s better to use sunscreen when you planned to go outside.
Avoid using harsh soaps and moisturizers with fragrances. Instead, switch to moisturizers that have Aloe Vera, glycerin as the main components.

Wearing warm gloves is so important because your hands are one part of your body that is exposed to the cold more often.

WHAT TO WEAR WITH A COLLARED SHIRT

A collared shirt is not only a must-have wardrobe staple, it’s often required in dress from school uniforms to tons of job positions and more. It can come in the form of a blouse or casual button up t-shirt, but no matter what, one thing is true: the possibilities for accessorizing this top are endless.
What to Wear with a Collared Shirt

How to Wear A Collared Shirt

Just Add Jewelry
Some of my favorite ways to accessorize basic tops like this are statement baubles. Hello, bright springy jewels. Tucking a necklace – make sure the chain isn’t too long or too snug – under the collar is an easy way to sport this statement. If you’re working with a white top or even chambray, try a bright neon color or a necklace full of multicolored gems. If you have a nice blouse that needs something extra, adding a metallic necklace can keep it dressy without looking too stuffy. This is a great way to sport collars if you have limitations in how you can dress up your bottom half, and other jewelry like drop earrings or bold bracelets are welcomed too!

Get Preppy
It’s true, I’ve mentioned layering on multiple topics from my closet organization tips to fall fashion, but adding a layer to your top works here too, and even in spring. You don’t have to go crazy when layering – a top with a collar layered with a top without one will do just fine, and can even be pulled off with jewelry too. A light crewneck sweater that allows your collar and cuffs to peek through is perfect. You can reverse it and layer your unbuttoned top over a top as well for a more casual look.

Loose Layers
Although it seems like the only way to rock a sweater and button up is to go preppy – think all the above paired with a pencil skirt and kitten heels – you can actually create a casual chic vibe just by switching up your sweater. Instead of a crewneck, to achieve this look, you should opt for slouchy open cardigans like the ones below.

Conversely, you can layer a loose lace top or asymmetrical hemline underneath. Plus, if you’re able to snag a long top to layer, you can go super casual by pairing this with leggings (that is, if you don’t need to dress up your collared shirt for work!) – comfy, much?
