MEN’S FASHION TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS AUTUMN / WINTER

ere’s no denying the fact that we’re well into the autumn by now. The leaves are changing colour, while all the stores have their winter collections of warmer jackets and knitwear out on display.
Autumn/winter fashion is a favourite for all fashion lovers. The crisp air allows for good layering, while the possibilities of knitted accessories are endless. No winter look is complete without those knitted accessories, such as scarves, hats and gloves. They finalise any look in the winter and, paired alongside the rest of the outfit, will help to keep you warm and cosy. The favourite colours for the season are always blacks, greys, navy’s and subtle browns and these are alway seen on the high street. But what are the key essentials for the season?
For those not wanting to go through the anxiety of bidding wars and buying from unknown sellers, eBay's Fashion Gallery provides a forum for discount clothing direct from the retailer, cutting out the middlemen but retaining the saving. Get Ebay promo code for saving now!
Coats and jackets are the ultimate requirement for the winter, but they don’t have to be the standard boring and black jackets that you’ll see everywhere. This season, there is a lot more variety in terms of styles and colours, so go and have some fun. The likes of Hardy Amies had some pops of orange to make you stand out, while beige was a strong colour on all the autumn/winter catwalks. Add a hoody or some knitwear underneath and you’ll be ready to face whatever the weather may bring your way.

Autumn/Winter Lookbook Inspiration from All Saints

Grunge was a big trend on the catwalks again, with a lot of black and leather being very prominent. An iconic leather jacket, like these ones, is a must. Not only do they look really cool, they’re also a lot easier to wear than you would think. They can go with just about anything from jeans and a cool t-shirt to a more professional look with a shirt and trousers. If you’re feeling brave, get a jacket with lots of zips and studs to really make yourself stand out. This is an investment you won’t regret and you’ll be able to wear it for seasons to come.
As you can see, layering is key. You want to be warm enough for when you’re out and about in the cold, but you also want to be able to peel off layers in case you’re on a particularly warm train, or the office has its heating on. T-shirts with a hoody, or shirts with some knitwear over is a good look, allowing you to also take off that extra layer in case you get hot. Add a knitted scarf to add that extra layer of warmth for when it gets really cold.

2) New Look Traditional Parka Jacket // £44.99
3) Izzue Denim Jacket With Shearling Look Collar // £135.00
To go with those jackets, you need trousers that match. The catwalks showed a lot of fitted jeans and trousers again, and it’s clearly a trend that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. You can pair them with your leather jacket to make a more casual outfit. Or add in a nice shirt underneath if you need to look professional for work. Tailored trousers are big right now too, especially slim slacks – which was a trend spotted at Tom Ford.
These can look really professional, but have a hint of edge as well. And don’t be scared to stray towards the printed trousers while you’re at it. Check is a big trend, and can be worn with a plain shirt, or can be worn with a matching blazer, as was seen at Alexander McQueen and Richard Nicoll.

Go ahead and have fun with your winter looks. As you can see, they don’t have to be as drab as what you see on your commute in the mornings. Add some prints or colours to give your own twist on the looks while looking warn and cosy at the same time.

Clothes Shopping tips To Always Know What to Wear

Have you worn everything you bought on your last big shopping trip?

Recently one of my clients told me how she was so excited that she had actually worn everything she bought on our first clothes shopping trip together.

What really struck me, was that I never thought that it would be any other way, but her comment reminded me how often women do go clothes shopping and how very often simply end up not wearing what they purchased.

Have you found yourself doing the same when clothes shopping, therefore experiencing buyer’s remorse? Well, it happens to the best of us, but the trick is to learn from mistakes so as to not keep repeating them.

Here are 4 Don’ts to keep in mind the next time you feel the urge to go clothes shopping.

1.    Just because the price is right, does not mean you’ll ever wear it. If it isn’t right for you at full price, it won’t look better on you at 50% off.

2.    Resist the urge to buy what you already have. Ex: Another black dress or pants.

3.    Don’t buy the ‘must have’ color, unless it looks good on you!

4.    Never buy something too big or small. Only buy what fits now, as you can always shop again if and when you need another size.

What To Wear With Your New Winter Boots

If there's a buy out there that needs to count, it's your winter boot. No matter if your walk to work is uphill both ways in 6-foot snowdrifts or a short-but-brutal clip from your car to the heated indoors, if you have to do it in a shoddy pair of boots, you might as well be barefoot. Not only do these babies have to be sturdy, they also have to match with your clothes.

Fall-winter boots

Unlike pretty sandals and fun sneakers that allow for skimping on construction, winter boots are made and (literally) broken on their stitching. So, if you're going to spend your money on anything this season, make it a boot made for slogging — not just walking.

But, unless Santa is your neighbor, you probably don't need thigh-high mukluks to get you through. We've got five boots you might want to add to your lineup — for the fall-to-winter days when you still want to look on — and how to work your wardrobe so they really kick.

10 ELLE.COM EDITORS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE NAIL POLISHES FOR FALL

Though we do not want summer to end (how did it go by so fast?), part of us is looking forward to all those little things that come with fall: the crispness in the air, layering sweaters and wearing leather jackets again, and swapping out our bright summer clothes and makeup for a moodier color palette. One of the best ways to accent this new fall look, is with a fresh manicure. Here, are our the polishes our editors swear by for autumn.

1. Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Coco Suede

"I never pick my nail color according to trends. Since last spring, I have been obsessed with varying shades of brown nail polishes so that my hands appear to be all one color. I've continued this into summer and will probably do so into fall until something changes my mind."-Danielle Prescod, fashion editor
$18; saksfifthavenue.com

2. OPI Nail Lacquer in Italian Love Affair

"I love a neutral nude with a pink hue, it's very Kim Kardashian. I wear a lot of black so it's a nice contrast. The perfect accent to my open toe booties." -Erin Toland, art director

$9.50; ulta.com

3. Deborah Lippman Blue Orchid

"I have such a crush on Deborah Lippman's Blue Orchid nail lacquer. It's the perfect hazy shade of blue—a little more grown up than my old favorite, Hard Candy's Sky, but with the same cloudy, dreamy vibe. I think I'll wear it with my new Frame Denim jeans and vintage Luella blazer during Fashion Week shows—and it'll look so cute peeking out of my gold Miu Miu platform sandals during the after parties." -Faran Krentcil, special projects editor,

$18; deborahlippmann.com

4. Essie Fall in Line

"I can’t wait to bust out Essie’s new dusty teal hue, "Fall in Line.” Usually I’m not one for funky colors, but I get excited thinking about my hands wrapped around a steaming Hot Toddy, my lambs’ ear-colored digits poking out from an oversize Prabal knit. A girl can dream, can’t she?"-Justine Harman, features editor
$8.50; ulta.com

5. Zoya Pepper

"I'm a big fan of Zoya's polishes (love that they're Big 5 free, and the brush is really easy to use) and I expect this dark red shade will be on my toes all through the winter."-Kate Winick, social media editor

$9; zoya.com

6. JINsoon Tess Giberson Nocturne

“Last fall I was obsessed with Essie’s After School Boy Blazer midnight blue polish, but a few weeks ago I was introduced to the JINsoon Tess Giberson Collection and nocturne, a gunmetal dark grey, has won me over. I have always loved a dark polish that almost looks black, but I’ve never been so drawn to a metallic before. The slight shimmer takes away anything that might be construed as goth, and makes such a dark color seem a little delicate.”-Megan Cahn, beauty editor

$18; jinsoon.com

7. OPI Nail Lacquer in Rich Chocolate

"For fall, I love a deep, burnt shade, like OPI's purple-tinged "rich chocolate" from their Brazil collection." -Rebecca Moss, producer

$9.5; ulta.com

8. Tom Ford Nail Laquer Toasted Sugar

"I’m a nude nail type of girl, but you’d be amazed how how difficult it is to find the perfect shade of nude polish. Tom Ford’s Toasted Sugar is as close to perfect as I’ve found thus far. It makes my nails look lacquered and long, and lasts a full week and a half (if I don’t wash dishes…which I try my very best not to!)"-Ruthie Friedlander, deputy editor

$32; tomford.com

9. Essie Nail Color in Bordeaux

"I do Essie's Bordeaux—for fall I love a clean neutral or a rich, deep red color.  To me, the darker hue is a classic twist on the traditional red and lends the perfect hint of sexiness to my otherwise understated beauty look." -Sally Holmes, news editor

$8.50; target.com

10. CND Vinylux Impossibly Plush

"I normally like to keep my nails very dark in the fall, but I’m all about nudes right now—specifically, nudes that are muddled by a tinge of gray. CND is the only nail lacquer I ever use since I was introduced to it a few years ago, because the colors are always on point and it’s virtually unchippable. I suspect that my autumn beauty uniform will be the brand’s beige-ish shade Impossibly Plush, paired with a very dark wine-stained lip." -Victoria Hoff, editorial assistant

$9.90; cnd.com

Fall Fashion Trend 2014 : BEHIND THE SEAMS: DELPOZO

THE SPANISH HOUSE PLAYS WITH COLOR
PHOTOGRAPHY PETER STIGTER
WORDS RAY SIEGEL

Josep Font’s creative direction under the Spanish house of Delpozo, which was founded in 1974, is often spoke of as a revival.

There are loud whispers of Spanish flare throughout, but Font’s aesthetic is far from retro. “We’re headed to the future, one step at a time,” Font clarifies. “We try to bring fresh pieces to offer the modern woman.”

Modernity is an accurate word to describe the interaction of color happening throughout the house’s spring collection. This season called for color on more than one runway, but Font’s interpretation is more complex; his use of color combinations effectively creates dimension and space.

“One of our focal points each season is the use of Josef Alber’s theory of color interaction and how that impacts you,” Font explains. Vibrant greens and coral tinted oranges are combined with subdued pastels here, creating a visual experience that’s difficult to look away from.

A second focal point is the use of natural landscapes as art. Geometric shapes and petal details are reminiscent of that organically occurring in nature. Actual seashells inspired by Leopold and Rudolf Blashka (a father son duo who invented the crystal modeling of marine life in the 1970s) are worked into the embroidery.

The earthy nature of the collection is juxtaposed with modern materials like vinyl used to create a craquelé effect.

[ Fall Fashion blog ] 11 fashion bloggers in LA every fashionista should follow - Part 2

continue ...

6. Damsel in Dior

Though the lead damsel behind this polished style guide admits that she doesn't actually own a single piece of Dior, the witty title is not a misnomer, but instead symbolic of a lifestyle. Jacey Duprie's elegant, urban streetwear, captured through magazine-quality photos and clever captions, proves that you don't have to be 18 to pull off a crop top or earn six figures to make a suit look sexy. Jacey doesn't shy away from structured jackets, tweed skirts and strappy pumps. Most of the blogger's trappings marry reasonably priced items from Zara and Anthropologie with designer splurges, resulting in some seriously luxe aesthetics. The damsel teaches you how to assemble expensive-looking ensembles without having to spend six month's salary on every last piece. One of her favorite closet items at the moment is her Rails Kendra shirt, proving that even plaid button-downs can look swank.

7. STOP IT RIGHT NOW

"I appreciate LA's casual air and messy, thrown-togetherness," divulges Jayne Min, the STOP IT RIGHT NOW mastermind, whose style suggests equal parts Katharine Hepburn and Edward Sharpe, but whose sense of humor is all her own. "It's like the chicken or the egg puzzle, where I don't know if I appreciate it because I'm innately slovenly or if LA has actually made me this way." We adore Jayne's anti-slovenly and lovingly self-deprecating charm and lack of pretention. The blogger pairs effortless photos (featuring studded ear cuffs, leather scarves, oversized coats and her delightful dogs) with captions that wittily describe her style inspiration and general attitude. Frankly, Jayne Min is cool. Her proclivity for plaid is cool, her ability to find the best vintage denim at the Rose Bowl is cool and—perhaps most importantly—her relatability is cool. We Angelenos are proud to claim her as one of our own.

8. What is Reality Anyway?

Renaissance Angeleno Krystal Simpson has dipped her steel toe in reality television, modeling and general jet-setting, but luckily, the down-to-earth blog she created in 2007 is here for keeps. What is Reality Anyway?, which Krystal describes as "part photo album, part journal, and part travel diary," gives us a cool glimpse into what could otherwise be seen as the overtly glamorous life of a reality persona in LA. Whereas censorship and phoniness run rampant in some tinseltown circles, Krystal invites all of us viewers to tag along for her TopShop photo shoots, her Galore Magazine interviews, her red carpet walks at the iHeartRadio Music Festival and more. And even though the events are awesome and the clothes are rock-and-roll, Krystal's blog gives us an unintimidating look at her true personality and everyday life, which (when she's not skateboarding around LA in Saint Laurent kicks) involves a lot of online shopping, while laying in bed, wearing "sweats, dirty hair, a beanie, Uggs... the works."

9. Stay Classic

Regular dudes should rip a page out of the undoubtedly suede-bound book of Stay Classic's dapper mastermind, Tim. The blog's layout (formatted by Tumblr, by the way) is as streamlined as the concept: Debonair professional photographer shoots thrice-weekly self-portraits of the polished threads he's actually wearing that day. What's impressive is that most of Tim's high-end looking wardrobe comes from totally heard-of shops at prices for the everyman—$29 J. Crew Factory button-downs, $4 funky socks from H&M, TopMan tweed slacks bought on clearance for $20. Ultimately, Stay Classic is an unpretentious guide for how regular guys can piece together affordable clothes and come out looking pretty damn sophisticated. Tim's favorite spot in LA to score a closet gem? Buffalo Exchange. Easy.

10. Lady à la Mode

A vintage-lover's haven manifests itself in this sweet, streamlined blog for the thrifty Angeleno. Antiquey filtered photos of old school-meets-new-school ensembles line each page with mini blurbs from blogger Caitie, including tidbits and advice for how to marry vintage pieces with modern trends and closet staples. Watch mainstream items from Forever 21 and Madewell take on throwback personalities with the addition of a retro velvet hat, androgynous oxfords or a plastic purse from the 80s. Caitie's outfits are never bank-breaking nor devoid of whimsy. Her posts provide inspiration for LA's vintage-loving and budget-conscious—those who enjoy a little creativity with their style and don't need a tricked-out blog to get it. Trade secret from Miss à la Mode herself: Angelenos who don't shy away from thrifting in the trenches absolutely must explore Jet Rag's Sunday morning sale, where everything costs $1.

11. Cupcakes and Cashmere

Since having launched what was once a darling personal project in 2008, Emily Schuman has become the George Washington of fashion blogs. The Condé Nast-seasoned mother of this fashion, food and stylish living site has since collabed with Coach to design a wildly successful pastel pink handbag, in addition to publishing a Cupcakes and Cashmere book (yes, a physical printed book—and another is due out soon). This blogger has captured the hearts of thousands with her winsome balance of relatable charm and luxe aesthetics. Schuman's consistently updated and alluringly photographed looks of the day, recipes, beauty tips, decor and DIY ideas make C&C a benchmark for fashion blogs in LA and beyond. Plus, we take her restaurant recommendations seriously. This woman has taste.

The 8 key autumn/winter 2014 fashion trends you need to know about

Autumn/winter is our absolute favourite season of the year (just so you know, we think in fashion seasons rather than those of the meteorological variety – much easier to distinguish).

British people dress better in winter than they do in summer. Fact.

We much prefer wrapping ourselves in snuggly coats and layers of soft knit. In fact, we dream in cashmere.

And with shops receiving their first delivery of new season AW14 clothes next month (true story), here’s all you need to know about the key trends.

1. 60s mods

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
The A-line shift, seen here at the Louis Vuitton show, is everything for autumn (Picture: AFP PHOTO / BERTRAND GUAY BERTRAND GUAY/AFP/Getty Images)
Every season has its signature decade these days and this time round it’s the 60s, as seen at Nicolas Ghesquiere’s first show for Louis Vuitton which featured structured A-line shifts, knee-high shiny leather boots and luxe polo necks.

Gucci’s more glamorous take saw brown leather A-lines paired with ruffled leather shirts, while Valentino gave us bright printed tunics.

60s minis and bold print is also a key look a la Valentino (Picture: AFP PHOTO / MIGUEL MEDINA MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images)
Note, pointed 60s flats and mini boxy handbags are also having a moment. It’s 60s with a modern twist.

2. Fairy tales come true

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
Giant fur hoods and deep rich reds hit the Dolce & Gabbana AW14 catwalk (Picture: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images)
Dolce & Gabbana turned storytellers with their dark, unctuous take on traditional fairy tales for AW14. Think huge fur hoods, jade green embellished capes and enchanting Little Red Riding Hood thick ruby coats.

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
Christopher Kane’s dramatic origami dresses were the talk of the town at London Fashion Week (Picture: Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images)
Elsewhere, there was no less drama at Christopher Kane with his delicious 3D millefeuille dresses and tuilled spiral arms. Oh, and don’t forget Preen’s Darth Vader sweats.

Expect shops to be littered with hooded capes and bold embellished detail, particularly when the colder weather hits.

3. Designer normcore

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
Margaret Howell gives us normcore for grown-ups (Picture: Anthony Harvey/Getty Images)
Don’t groan. Yes, normcore’s gone high fashion. Also described as ‘perfectly boring’, the key to this trend is beautifully tailored louche trouser suits, soft wool jumpers, and a lot of classic grey, navy and black. This is about wearing the very best classic pieces you can afford, to make your life as simple and comfortable as possible. As seen at Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Margaret Howell.

Just remember, this is designer normcore, so leave the hoody at home.

4. Portrait of an artist

Indulge in Burberry’s dissolving autumnal water-colour prints for AW14 (Picture: Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images)
Burberry often creates trends all on its own these days. And it’s no different this season with Christopher Bailey celebrating the boho artists and writers of the 1920s, known as the Bloomsbury set. Beautiful, whimsical watercolour scarves were layered over dresses and worn with drawstring ankle boots and either a shearling jacket or one of those monogrammed blankets.

One for the creative spirit inside all of us.

5. Fast-food fashion

Get your Chanel crop tops here (Picture: AFP PHOTO / PATRICK KOVARIK PATRICK KOVARIK/AFP/Getty Images)
Seemingly in direct contrast to the romanticism seen at Burberry, Karl Lagerfeld gave us hard-edged consumerism with his supermarket chic-themed show. The catwalk was transformed into the most stylish supermarket we’d ever seen and the FROW was encouraged to go wild in the aisles for the Chanel branded foodstuffs at the close.

The clothes, including very high end Pepto-Bismol crop tops, track pants and trainers, were fabulously trashy.

With Jeremy Scott also taking his inspiration from a certain fast food restaurant at Moschino, expect plenty of brash, bright colour on the high street, along with accessories influenced by your favourite fast food chains. Tasty.

6. Feeling blue

While pink has reigned supreme in recent seasons, blue fought back on the AW14 catwalks (though don’t ditch the pink coat yet – Christopher Kane ensured they’re still en vogue, phew).

From cobalts to teals and everything in between, we’ll all be feeling blue this autumn.

7. What would Dietrich do?

For those of a darker disposition, just channel the uncompromisingly glamorous Marlene Dietrich and her very real brand of romanticism, by indulging your love for buttery soft black leather, flashes of red, and inky languid silks, as seen at Lanvin, Prada and Givenchy. Dangerously seductive.

8. The super-coat

If you only buy one thing for the new season, it must be a statement coat. Our particular favourite is the blanket coat (what can be better than basically commuting in your duvet?) but other key looks were chunky faux-furs, full length patchwork designs, luxe puffas and anything shearling.
