FALL 2015 MEN’S FASHION TRENDS FROM MILAN, NEW YORK, PARIS & LONDON FASHION WEEKS

Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Fashion Trends–Setting the trends for the season, designers unveiled their fall-winter 2015 menswear collections during Milan Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week 2015, Paris Fashion Week and London Collections: Men. A common thread among the collections was a desire to make wearable, accessible everyday clothing, whether it was formal or casual. Placing the importance on textiles, many of the season’s trends were dictated by fabric choices. From shearling to corduroy, designers revisited classic staples with a modern flair. Other trends to emerge included patchwork, androgyny, a gothic approach to formalwear and the use of animal prints.

Left to Right: Valentino, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton

FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: SHEARLING OUTERWEAR
TREAD LIGHTLY AND EMBRACE SHEARLING OUTERWEAR THIS SEASON. BOASTING LIGHTWEIGHT OPTIONS, DESIGNERS PUT THEIR BEST CASUAL FOOT FORWARD.

Valentino Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Contrasting fabrics come together for Valentino’s contribution to fall’s shearling trend. Treated to a short jacket, Valentino’s man flexes a casual approach to luxury wear. The smart mix of fabrics makes the jacket a great addition to both casual and formal day looks.

Jil Sander Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Minimal design meets a luxurious fabric treatment as Jil Sander flexes a rich attitude with a brilliant, short shearling jacket. Jil Sander’s fall collection marked Rodolfo Paglialunga’s first men’s outing as creative director.

Louis Vuitton Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Louis Vuitton creative director Kim Jones delivered a light hand as he revisited the iconic shirt jacket in a lightweight, stone colored shearling. The must-have jacket was part of a graphic collection inspired by the work of Christopher Nemeth.

Ovadia & Sons Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Unveiling its fall collection during New York Fashion Week, Ovadia & Sons delivered slender fits and a lineup of separates ideal for urban living. Highlighting the shearling trend, Ovadia & Sons sent out a camel hued bomber jacket with modern details.
FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: PATCHWORK
CATCH THE ATTENTION OF THE ROOM WITH A MIX OF GEOMETRIC PATTERNS AND DIFFERENT TEXTILES.

Left to Right: Dries Van Noten, Kolor, Antonio Marras

Antonio Marras Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Designer Antonio Marras was inspired by the movie Taxi Driver for his fall collection. The iconic movie provided for a smart selection of separates, which highlighted pieces like patchwork jackets, combining various materials and colors for an interesting take on the season.

Dries Van Noten Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Belgian designer Dries Van Noten delivered a brilliant fall collection inspired by firemen. The firefighter jacket was reimagined here with a clever color blocking scheme and use of somber, complementary hues.

Kolor Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Channeling the old west, Kolor served up a smart mix of colors and patchwork for a lineup of comfortable separates with a graphic appeal. Mixed or matched, Kolor’s latest provided for a confident remix of the usual.

James Long Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. One of the highlights of London Collections: Men, designer James Long brought a casual attitude to the plate for fall. Mixing fabrics and colors, Long remixed the elements of the denim jacket for a youthful undertaking.

FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: CORDUROY
REVISIT A CLASSIC TEXTILE IN A SOPHISTICATED MANNER.

Left to Right: Bottega Veneta, Billy Reid, Ermenegildo Zegna Couture

Billy Reid Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Designer Billy Reid’s collections continue to charm as accessible fashions are infused with smart design details that stand out from the crowd. Enlarging corduroy, Reid turned out a phenomenal coat that was quiet but confident.

Ermenegildo Zegna Couture Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Velvet and corduroy contributed to the ideal marriage of fabrics as Ermengildo Zegna Couture creative director Stefano Pilati presented his latest design efforts. Dressed in rich, autumnal tones, Pilati’s take on corduroy staples were simply luxurious.

Bottega Veneta Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Taking a relaxed approach to the season, Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier delivered a cheeky collection with loose, slouchy proportions. Inspired by the idea of sweatpants and leisurewear, among the affair was a rich, double-breasted, gray corduroy jacket.

Fendi Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Silvia Fendi had corduroy on the mind for fall, but also the shearling trend. Manipulating shearling, Fendi created a faux corduroy for the collection, sending rich brown imitations down the catwalk. The tailored fits were easily a success, contributing to smart coordinated ensembles.

FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: MODERN ANDROGYNY / 70S REVIVAL
CHANNEL YOUR INNER BOWIE WITH AN ANDROGYNOUS APPROACH TO THE SEASON.

Left to Right: Gucci, Rick Owens, Raf Simons

Gucci Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. New Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele proposed a fragile approach to menswear for his debut collection for fall/winter 2015. Red lace delivered a colorful punch that deviated from traditional menswear.

Rick Owens Fall-Winter 2015 Collection. Designer Rick Owens made headlines with his fall collection. Sending his models down the catwalk in revealing clothes that featured the penis on display, Owens championed equal objectification. Long tunics in earthy hues contributed to a unisex look.

Raf Simons Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. The lean lines of Simons’ menswear lends itself well to cross over to unisex wear. For fall, Simons delivered minimal fashions that channeled his younger days as a rebellious designer during the 90s.

J.W. Anderson Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Designer Jonathan Anderson makes it no secret that he is inspired by womenswear when it comes to designing for his men. Anderson’s soft silhouettes called on the 1970s for inspiration.

FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: ANIMAL PRINTS
TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE AND INFUSE YOUR WARDROBE WITH ANIMAL PRINTS.

Left to Right: Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein Collection, Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Christopher Bailey has created a legacy at Burberry, dressing up the famed British fashion house’s classic outerwear designs with intricate prints and colors. For fall, Bailey embraces animal prints for an injection of attitude.

John Varvatos Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. When it comes to designers, John Varvatos is the king of rock. Inspired by Bob Dylan, Varvatos delivered a fall outing, perfect for a day in Central Park. Among the lineup was a sharp, tailored leopard coat.

Calvin Klein Collection Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Creative director for Calvin Klein Collection menswear, Italo Zucchelli is best when revisiting classics with smart subtleties. Offering a quiet take on animal prints, Zucchelli delivered successful tonal prints.

Saint Laurent Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Saint Laurent creative director has successfully rebranded the fashion brand as the go-to for a rocker chic look. A design constant for the Saint Laurent man is animal prints and Slimane’s fall collection didn’t disappoint.

FALL 2015 MENSWEAR TREND: GOTHIC FORMAL
BLACK MAY BE A CLASSIC, BUT THIS SEASON, IT’S FORMAL BLACK THAT’S IN VOGUE.

Left to Right: Thom Browne, Dior Homme, Junya Watanabe

Dior Homme Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. One idea that Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche prides himself on is making menswear accessible. Taking traditional pieces in a sportier direction, Van Assche set his sights on the tuxedo for part of his latest collection. The results were effortless proportions that deviated from the standard, adding length and style.

Thom Browne Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. American designer Thom Browne staged an impressive funeral for his fall outing in Paris. The star of the event was the mourning suit, revisited in chic layers with impeccable fits. If a long skirt isn’t your cup of tea, Browne had plenty of his trademark skinny trousers.

Junya Watanabe Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Known for its clothes that have a charming, rustic quality, Junya Watanabe deviated from the usual path for fall, presenting formalwear reworked for everyday style. Striking to say the least, smart tailoring and fabric choices solidified a strong fall collection.

Prada Fall-Winter 2015 Menswear Collection. Designer Miuccia Prada had thoughts of simplicity on the mind for fall. A clean, minimal black color palette dressed sharp tailoring, lending itself nicely to the modern, lean suit and accompanying companion pieces such as the short double-breasted coat.

These Boots are Made For Walking: Fall and Winter Shoe Styles

Fall is a great time to reassess your wardrobe and set aside a bit of money to purchase some staple items that will keep you warm and fashionable throughout the cold fall and winter seasons. Among these important fall and winter staples are boots and shoes that will keep your feet warm and dry while adding a touch of chic fall-winter fashion trends to already existing items in your wardrobe. Here are a few footwear ideas to convert your wardrobe into fall-friendly outfits.

Flats

Source image : Ebay Flats

Reef has an excellent collection of comfortable women’s flats that will work well with tights and leggings in the fall months. Purchase a few neutral colors that will go with many outfits, but be sure to also purchase a bright color to add some pizzazz and a pop of color during those dull winter days. Use flats and tights to convert spring and summer skirts into fall outfits. You can layer long-sleeved button up shirts and cardigans on top to create warmth, without having to purchase a fully new wardrobe. Flats are also sweet with jeans or dress pants and thin, warm socks or trouser socks.

Boots

Source image : Ebay.com

Boots are one of those fall and winter staples that many women long to wear throughout the warmer spring and summer months. Invest in a few good pairs of leather or faux leather boots in neutral colors, such as black and brown. Again, boots can dress up any outfit. They are great with tights and leggings under dresses, or wear them over skinny jeans. For everyday wear, flat boots or boots with a low heel work well, providing both comfort and style. Many companies now also make cute boot socks that have a bit of lace or design detail that peeks out from the top of your boot. Small touches like these will help dress up your look.

Casual Shoes

Invest in some comfortable, casual shoes that have good style. Casual shoes for fall may include lace-up leather shoes in surprising colors, as well as some neutrals that will go well with a lot of items. Comfort is important in this season, as well as wearing warm socks. Casual shoes go well with dark wash jeans, flannel button-ups, cardigans, and cute sweaters that adorn the autumn season. Wear them when you’re choosing those pumpkins at the farmers market, raking leaves, or choosing this year’s holiday tree.

The Best Tinted Lip Balms Under $10

Some tingle, some shine, and some shimmer—but one thing all tinted lip balms should do is hydrate. Luckily, we found a dozen with totally cheap price tags in spot-on shapes.

REVLON COLORBURST LIP BUTTER IN JUICY PAPAYA, $8.99

As the name suggests, this balm glides on with a creamy, buttery texture. And even though tangerine is usually a summer shade, this sheer, zingy coral has pink undertones that make it flattering for any season (and on any skin tone).

NEUTROGENA REVITALIZING LIP BALM SPF 20 IN SOFT CARAMEL, $8.99

You don't exactly have to be a professional makeup artist to neatly swipe on lip balm. Still, the oval shape of this tube makes it extra easy to swivel on the sexy cappuccino color. It's also got SPF 20, making it especially perfect for days you're hitting the slopes.

COVERGIRL LIPPERFECTION JUMBO GLOSS BALM IN WATERMELON TWIST, $7.99

This may look like Barbie's first tinted lip balm, but on your lips, the color is much more subdued—just a sheer pink with the prettiest sheen. Plus, it has shea and mango butters for all-day moisture.

NIVEA A KISS OF SHINE GLOSSY LIP CARE, $3.29

This gloss-balm hybrid delivers major moisture, shimmer, and shine without rubber-cement stickiness. The slant-tip applicator neatly deposits subtle gold flecks that are so small, you don't notice them once they're on, but they create a mirror-like effect, making lips look fuller.

BURT'S BEES TINTED LIP BALM IN SWEET VIOLET, $7

This balm has the brand's famous beeswax for hydration, plus shea butter and plant oils for a slicker texture. And the reddish-plum hue stains lips with just enough sheer berry color to make them look flushed and healthy.

You can get them at Ebay.com and don't miss Ebay redemption code october 2014 for saving!

10 ELLE.COM EDITORS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE NAIL POLISHES FOR FALL

Though we do not want summer to end (how did it go by so fast?), part of us is looking forward to all those little things that come with fall: the crispness in the air, layering sweaters and wearing leather jackets again, and swapping out our bright summer clothes and makeup for a moodier color palette. One of the best ways to accent this new fall look, is with a fresh manicure. Here, are our the polishes our editors swear by for autumn.

1. Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Coco Suede

"I never pick my nail color according to trends. Since last spring, I have been obsessed with varying shades of brown nail polishes so that my hands appear to be all one color. I've continued this into summer and will probably do so into fall until something changes my mind."-Danielle Prescod, fashion editor
$18; saksfifthavenue.com

2. OPI Nail Lacquer in Italian Love Affair

"I love a neutral nude with a pink hue, it's very Kim Kardashian. I wear a lot of black so it's a nice contrast. The perfect accent to my open toe booties." -Erin Toland, art director

$9.50; ulta.com

3. Deborah Lippman Blue Orchid

"I have such a crush on Deborah Lippman's Blue Orchid nail lacquer. It's the perfect hazy shade of blue—a little more grown up than my old favorite, Hard Candy's Sky, but with the same cloudy, dreamy vibe. I think I'll wear it with my new Frame Denim jeans and vintage Luella blazer during Fashion Week shows—and it'll look so cute peeking out of my gold Miu Miu platform sandals during the after parties." -Faran Krentcil, special projects editor,

$18; deborahlippmann.com

4. Essie Fall in Line

"I can’t wait to bust out Essie’s new dusty teal hue, "Fall in Line.” Usually I’m not one for funky colors, but I get excited thinking about my hands wrapped around a steaming Hot Toddy, my lambs’ ear-colored digits poking out from an oversize Prabal knit. A girl can dream, can’t she?"-Justine Harman, features editor
$8.50; ulta.com

5. Zoya Pepper

"I'm a big fan of Zoya's polishes (love that they're Big 5 free, and the brush is really easy to use) and I expect this dark red shade will be on my toes all through the winter."-Kate Winick, social media editor

$9; zoya.com

6. JINsoon Tess Giberson Nocturne

“Last fall I was obsessed with Essie’s After School Boy Blazer midnight blue polish, but a few weeks ago I was introduced to the JINsoon Tess Giberson Collection and nocturne, a gunmetal dark grey, has won me over. I have always loved a dark polish that almost looks black, but I’ve never been so drawn to a metallic before. The slight shimmer takes away anything that might be construed as goth, and makes such a dark color seem a little delicate.”-Megan Cahn, beauty editor

$18; jinsoon.com

7. OPI Nail Lacquer in Rich Chocolate

"For fall, I love a deep, burnt shade, like OPI's purple-tinged "rich chocolate" from their Brazil collection." -Rebecca Moss, producer

$9.5; ulta.com

8. Tom Ford Nail Laquer Toasted Sugar

"I’m a nude nail type of girl, but you’d be amazed how how difficult it is to find the perfect shade of nude polish. Tom Ford’s Toasted Sugar is as close to perfect as I’ve found thus far. It makes my nails look lacquered and long, and lasts a full week and a half (if I don’t wash dishes…which I try my very best not to!)"-Ruthie Friedlander, deputy editor

$32; tomford.com

9. Essie Nail Color in Bordeaux

"I do Essie's Bordeaux—for fall I love a clean neutral or a rich, deep red color.  To me, the darker hue is a classic twist on the traditional red and lends the perfect hint of sexiness to my otherwise understated beauty look." -Sally Holmes, news editor

$8.50; target.com

10. CND Vinylux Impossibly Plush

"I normally like to keep my nails very dark in the fall, but I’m all about nudes right now—specifically, nudes that are muddled by a tinge of gray. CND is the only nail lacquer I ever use since I was introduced to it a few years ago, because the colors are always on point and it’s virtually unchippable. I suspect that my autumn beauty uniform will be the brand’s beige-ish shade Impossibly Plush, paired with a very dark wine-stained lip." -Victoria Hoff, editorial assistant

$9.90; cnd.com

Fall Fashion Trend 2014: One of the best things about New York Fashion

While most of my gal pals & I stay at the Empire Hotel {which is right across the street from most of the shows at Lincoln Center}, sometimes people stay elsewhere. But there is always a very good chance of bumping into someone you know every time you cross the street into the Lincoln Center Square. As I was heading to the DVF show {snapping pictures for the blog beforehand}, I ran into my old friend Caroline from the blog House of Harper. If you haven’t had a chance to check out her site, it offers a well curated combination of lifestyle meets fashion. I adore Caroline because not only is she a Texas gal but she enjoys the pomegranate margarita’s and guacamole just as much as I do. We headed to Rosa Mexicana just after shooting these pictures for a nice catch up session.
P.S. The DVF show was awesome {as always}.

The Fashion Secrets of Kate Lanphear, T’s Outgoing Women’s Style Director

Today, it was announced that T’s women’s style director, Kate Lanphear, will become the next editor-in-chief of Maxim magazine. Beyond her vast and varied contributions to the world of T, Lanphear has also drawn a global following for her distinctive rock-inspired look — a look that made her one of the original stars of the street-style world and continues to exert influence today.
Here, as we revisit some of her most memorable outfits, Lanphear shares the secrets behind her incomparable style.
Above all, be yourself…

“Style is about evolving your own uniform that reflects who you are and how you feel most comfortable. For me that’s often jeans and a T-shirt. I’ve always been into rock music and something kind of sexy and black.”

“You know you’ve seen something good at a fashion show when it makes you reconsider how you want to get dressed in the morning. There are plenty of times when you want to test drive a trend to see if it’s going to become part of the uniform.”

“I wear a lot of jewelry, but it all has meaning — a bracelet given by a dear friend, something that I picked up in a market overseas. It’s like wearing memories. The Guns ‘n’ Roses T-shirts I wear are the ones I was wearing as a teenager.”

“I had this hair color when I was a kid and now I have to fry it — basically white-knuckle it until it’s cooked. I’ve had it this short and this bleached for a long time. Tommy Buckett at Serge Normant has cut my hair since I’ve been in New York.”

“I use Shimmer Lights — it’s this shampoo grannies use, and it’s purple. That’s the only product I use, except for a straightening iron.”

“I don’t really do makeup. It really is about the sunglasses. If you’re tired, no amount of eye cream is going to help you, I find. I only ever wear Ray-Ban Wayfarers — I’ve tried some other ones, but those have emerged as uniform-worthy.”

“It was a great season for coats, and I splurged on a Calvin Klein coat, look seven from the fall/winter show, because a coat is something you wear every day. It’s cozy, fuzzy wool and single breasted, and of course it’s black.”

“It’s either sky-high or Chucks.”

“It is difficult to express just how deeply grateful I am to have had the opportunity at T to learn from such a dynamic editor. Deborah Needleman is a force. Not only is she one of the smartest, savviest editors I have ever worked for, she is also the most generous in spirit and mentorship.”

[ Fall Fashion blog ] 11 fashion bloggers in LA every fashionista should follow - Part 2

continue ...

6. Damsel in Dior

Though the lead damsel behind this polished style guide admits that she doesn't actually own a single piece of Dior, the witty title is not a misnomer, but instead symbolic of a lifestyle. Jacey Duprie's elegant, urban streetwear, captured through magazine-quality photos and clever captions, proves that you don't have to be 18 to pull off a crop top or earn six figures to make a suit look sexy. Jacey doesn't shy away from structured jackets, tweed skirts and strappy pumps. Most of the blogger's trappings marry reasonably priced items from Zara and Anthropologie with designer splurges, resulting in some seriously luxe aesthetics. The damsel teaches you how to assemble expensive-looking ensembles without having to spend six month's salary on every last piece. One of her favorite closet items at the moment is her Rails Kendra shirt, proving that even plaid button-downs can look swank.

7. STOP IT RIGHT NOW

"I appreciate LA's casual air and messy, thrown-togetherness," divulges Jayne Min, the STOP IT RIGHT NOW mastermind, whose style suggests equal parts Katharine Hepburn and Edward Sharpe, but whose sense of humor is all her own. "It's like the chicken or the egg puzzle, where I don't know if I appreciate it because I'm innately slovenly or if LA has actually made me this way." We adore Jayne's anti-slovenly and lovingly self-deprecating charm and lack of pretention. The blogger pairs effortless photos (featuring studded ear cuffs, leather scarves, oversized coats and her delightful dogs) with captions that wittily describe her style inspiration and general attitude. Frankly, Jayne Min is cool. Her proclivity for plaid is cool, her ability to find the best vintage denim at the Rose Bowl is cool and—perhaps most importantly—her relatability is cool. We Angelenos are proud to claim her as one of our own.

8. What is Reality Anyway?

Renaissance Angeleno Krystal Simpson has dipped her steel toe in reality television, modeling and general jet-setting, but luckily, the down-to-earth blog she created in 2007 is here for keeps. What is Reality Anyway?, which Krystal describes as "part photo album, part journal, and part travel diary," gives us a cool glimpse into what could otherwise be seen as the overtly glamorous life of a reality persona in LA. Whereas censorship and phoniness run rampant in some tinseltown circles, Krystal invites all of us viewers to tag along for her TopShop photo shoots, her Galore Magazine interviews, her red carpet walks at the iHeartRadio Music Festival and more. And even though the events are awesome and the clothes are rock-and-roll, Krystal's blog gives us an unintimidating look at her true personality and everyday life, which (when she's not skateboarding around LA in Saint Laurent kicks) involves a lot of online shopping, while laying in bed, wearing "sweats, dirty hair, a beanie, Uggs... the works."

9. Stay Classic

Regular dudes should rip a page out of the undoubtedly suede-bound book of Stay Classic's dapper mastermind, Tim. The blog's layout (formatted by Tumblr, by the way) is as streamlined as the concept: Debonair professional photographer shoots thrice-weekly self-portraits of the polished threads he's actually wearing that day. What's impressive is that most of Tim's high-end looking wardrobe comes from totally heard-of shops at prices for the everyman—$29 J. Crew Factory button-downs, $4 funky socks from H&M, TopMan tweed slacks bought on clearance for $20. Ultimately, Stay Classic is an unpretentious guide for how regular guys can piece together affordable clothes and come out looking pretty damn sophisticated. Tim's favorite spot in LA to score a closet gem? Buffalo Exchange. Easy.

10. Lady à la Mode

A vintage-lover's haven manifests itself in this sweet, streamlined blog for the thrifty Angeleno. Antiquey filtered photos of old school-meets-new-school ensembles line each page with mini blurbs from blogger Caitie, including tidbits and advice for how to marry vintage pieces with modern trends and closet staples. Watch mainstream items from Forever 21 and Madewell take on throwback personalities with the addition of a retro velvet hat, androgynous oxfords or a plastic purse from the 80s. Caitie's outfits are never bank-breaking nor devoid of whimsy. Her posts provide inspiration for LA's vintage-loving and budget-conscious—those who enjoy a little creativity with their style and don't need a tricked-out blog to get it. Trade secret from Miss à la Mode herself: Angelenos who don't shy away from thrifting in the trenches absolutely must explore Jet Rag's Sunday morning sale, where everything costs $1.

11. Cupcakes and Cashmere

Since having launched what was once a darling personal project in 2008, Emily Schuman has become the George Washington of fashion blogs. The Condé Nast-seasoned mother of this fashion, food and stylish living site has since collabed with Coach to design a wildly successful pastel pink handbag, in addition to publishing a Cupcakes and Cashmere book (yes, a physical printed book—and another is due out soon). This blogger has captured the hearts of thousands with her winsome balance of relatable charm and luxe aesthetics. Schuman's consistently updated and alluringly photographed looks of the day, recipes, beauty tips, decor and DIY ideas make C&C a benchmark for fashion blogs in LA and beyond. Plus, we take her restaurant recommendations seriously. This woman has taste.

The 8 key autumn/winter 2014 fashion trends you need to know about

Autumn/winter is our absolute favourite season of the year (just so you know, we think in fashion seasons rather than those of the meteorological variety – much easier to distinguish).

British people dress better in winter than they do in summer. Fact.

We much prefer wrapping ourselves in snuggly coats and layers of soft knit. In fact, we dream in cashmere.

And with shops receiving their first delivery of new season AW14 clothes next month (true story), here’s all you need to know about the key trends.

1. 60s mods

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
The A-line shift, seen here at the Louis Vuitton show, is everything for autumn (Picture: AFP PHOTO / BERTRAND GUAY BERTRAND GUAY/AFP/Getty Images)
Every season has its signature decade these days and this time round it’s the 60s, as seen at Nicolas Ghesquiere’s first show for Louis Vuitton which featured structured A-line shifts, knee-high shiny leather boots and luxe polo necks.

Gucci’s more glamorous take saw brown leather A-lines paired with ruffled leather shirts, while Valentino gave us bright printed tunics.

60s minis and bold print is also a key look a la Valentino (Picture: AFP PHOTO / MIGUEL MEDINA MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images)
Note, pointed 60s flats and mini boxy handbags are also having a moment. It’s 60s with a modern twist.

2. Fairy tales come true

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
Giant fur hoods and deep rich reds hit the Dolce & Gabbana AW14 catwalk (Picture: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images)
Dolce & Gabbana turned storytellers with their dark, unctuous take on traditional fairy tales for AW14. Think huge fur hoods, jade green embellished capes and enchanting Little Red Riding Hood thick ruby coats.

Christopher Kane’s dramatic origami dresses were the talk of the town at London Fashion Week (Picture: Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images)
Elsewhere, there was no less drama at Christopher Kane with his delicious 3D millefeuille dresses and tuilled spiral arms. Oh, and don’t forget Preen’s Darth Vader sweats.

Expect shops to be littered with hooded capes and bold embellished detail, particularly when the colder weather hits.

3. Designer normcore

The 8 key AW14 fashion trends you need to know about
Margaret Howell gives us normcore for grown-ups (Picture: Anthony Harvey/Getty Images)
Don’t groan. Yes, normcore’s gone high fashion. Also described as ‘perfectly boring’, the key to this trend is beautifully tailored louche trouser suits, soft wool jumpers, and a lot of classic grey, navy and black. This is about wearing the very best classic pieces you can afford, to make your life as simple and comfortable as possible. As seen at Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Margaret Howell.

Just remember, this is designer normcore, so leave the hoody at home.

4. Portrait of an artist

Indulge in Burberry’s dissolving autumnal water-colour prints for AW14 (Picture: Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images)
Burberry often creates trends all on its own these days. And it’s no different this season with Christopher Bailey celebrating the boho artists and writers of the 1920s, known as the Bloomsbury set. Beautiful, whimsical watercolour scarves were layered over dresses and worn with drawstring ankle boots and either a shearling jacket or one of those monogrammed blankets.

One for the creative spirit inside all of us.

5. Fast-food fashion

Seemingly in direct contrast to the romanticism seen at Burberry, Karl Lagerfeld gave us hard-edged consumerism with his supermarket chic-themed show. The catwalk was transformed into the most stylish supermarket we’d ever seen and the FROW was encouraged to go wild in the aisles for the Chanel branded foodstuffs at the close.

The clothes, including very high end Pepto-Bismol crop tops, track pants and trainers, were fabulously trashy.

With Jeremy Scott also taking his inspiration from a certain fast food restaurant at Moschino, expect plenty of brash, bright colour on the high street, along with accessories influenced by your favourite fast food chains. Tasty.

6. Feeling blue

While pink has reigned supreme in recent seasons, blue fought back on the AW14 catwalks (though don’t ditch the pink coat yet – Christopher Kane ensured they’re still en vogue, phew).

From cobalts to teals and everything in between, we’ll all be feeling blue this autumn.

For those of a darker disposition, just channel the uncompromisingly glamorous Marlene Dietrich and her very real brand of romanticism, by indulging your love for buttery soft black leather, flashes of red, and inky languid silks, as seen at Lanvin, Prada and Givenchy. Dangerously seductive.

8. The super-coat

If you only buy one thing for the new season, it must be a statement coat. Our particular favourite is the blanket coat (what can be better than basically commuting in your duvet?) but other key looks were chunky faux-furs, full length patchwork designs, luxe puffas and anything shearling.

Is it bad that we’re already dreaming of a white Christmas?
