These Sparkly Sweatshirts Tell the World Exactly What's on Your Mind

Dressing up for holiday parties is fun and everything, but when you want to bounce out of your little black dress—or throw on a no-brainer weekend outfit—a comfy sweatshirt just gets you. That’s why Glamour teamed up with Bow & Drape, the New York City brand that makes custom sweatshirts with clever phrases, to create our own line of tops with hashtag-worthy sayings. Better yet, wear it to your friend’s drinks thing where you won’t know anybody; it’s the perfect conversation starter.
You can choose from three phrases: Little Black Sweatshirt, Big Hair Don't Care, or Eat. Pray. Hustle. We know, hard to choose, they're all so...us.

10 Makeup Tips Every Woman Should Know (According to a Makeup Artist)

Makeup Mistake: Holding Your Brush the Wrong Way

When applying foundation with a brush, hold the very end of it. You will have slightly less control but a much softer touch that'll give you a more natural finish. Bonus tip: Use one pump of liquid foundation for sheer coverage and two pumps for medium.

We like Dior Fluid Foundation Brush ($45, sephora.com) and La Mer The Treatment Fluid Foundation ($85,nordstrom.com).

Makeup Mistake: Powdering Without a Plan

Loose powder (try Chanel Poudre Universelle $52,chanel.com) is ground super fine, which helps it minimize shine and diffuse light to blur imperfections. But that doesn'tmean you should go nuts and put it everywhere. Use a large brush, like the Synthetic Domed Multipurpose Brush from Sonia Kashuk ($18, target.com), to powder the T-zone, or take a more detailed approach and use an eye contour brush like the Roque Cozzette S165 Large Eye Contour Brush ($19, roquecozzette.com) to powder under the eyes, along the sides of the nose, and across any skin you want to look smoother.

Makeup Mistake: Using Too Much Concealer

With concealer, you want to get the most coverage with the least amount of product. Use your finger in a tapping motion to build thin layers of concealer under your eyes, close to your nose. Then use a concealer brush (try It Cosmetics Airbrush Blurring Concealer Brush #103, $16, ulta.com) to buff out the edges.

Makeup Mistake: Not Really Cleaning Your Brushes

Creamy products like foundation and eyeliner build up in your makeup tools, and brush cleansers, soap, and shampoo don't always get it all out. Instead, put several drops of waterproof eye makeup remover into a cup or the palm of your hand. Swirl the brush in it to loosen old makeup.

Rinse. Then, swirl the brush in a drop of face wash to remove the makeup and remover. Rinse again. Extra credit: Comb through the brush with a fine-tooth comb to remove even more product.

Makeup Mistake: Complicating Your Eye-Makeup Routine

Practically every (actually wearable) eye look includes a smudged dark eyeliner, a medium-shade neutral shadow, and mascara. Like an LBD, your perfect eye trio, can be dressed up or down in a million ways. One example? Accessorize with winged liquid eyeliner, a dark shadow at the corner, or false lashes for a night out. We guarantee if you keep the basic three items on hand, getting ready for anything will be a snap.

Try this trio: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black ($9, drugstore.com), L'Oréal Voluminous Manga Mascara in Black Angel ($8, ulta.com), and Guerlain Mono Eyeshadow in Hey Nude ($34,bloomingdales.com).

Makeup Mistake: Filling in Your Eyebrows With Only One Color

Whether you're blond or brunette, perfect your brows with a gray-brown shade of taupe, and a cool shade of dark brown. Use an angled eyeliner brush to fill the entire brow with the lighter shade. Then fill in any sparse areas, or even accentuate the arch with a pointed eyeliner brush and the deeper shade. Comb through with brow gel or a clean mascara wand to blend it evenly.

Note: This tip works for those deeper skin tones as well—the deeper shade darkens the entire brow, and the lighter shade will add softness.

Makeup Mistake: Ignoring Your Upper Waterlines

Lining your upper waterline doesn't have to involve weird eyelid contortions. Apply liner (we like a gel pencil like CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Eye Liner, $6, drugstore.com) to your lower lash and waterline

Now blink—hard. When you squeeze your eye shut, some of the liner will transfer to the upper waterline. Repeat to add intensity and you're done! Get drugstore discount code

Makeup Mistake: Putting Blush in the Wrong Place

Blush can make you look instantly more energized. Apply color on the apples of the cheeks using a smaller brush like the MAC 187 Duo Fibre Face (Ebay.com, maccosmetics.com) in a circular motion. Blend it out or soften it using a larger clean brush. But be careful: Blush swept all the way up to the hairline or under the cheekbones can go '80s-in-a-bad-wayfast. Makeup Mistake: Using a Death Grip on Your Eyeliner

Applying eyeliner is one of the most awkward things to do when it comes to makeup. To make it easier, notice how your hand is positioned. If it is clenched around the pencil for dear life, your fist will get in the way of being able to see what you're doing. Instead, hold the pencil as if you were going to sign your name. You want your fingers to look elegant, so keep them stretched long. Then, when you look in the mirror, make sure your hand is rotated toward the side of your face so it doesn't block your reflection. Use a long, freshly sharpened pencil and draw with the side of the point. Press and drag the pencil instead of using the tip for better control.

Makeup Mistake: Using the Wrong Lip Liner

Lip liners are an essential in any makeup artist's kit, and they should be in yours too. Here are three you need:

1. A lip pencil that's the same color as your lipstick. Create crisp lines or fill in the entire lip with pencil before layering lipstick so the color lasts longer.
2. A lip pencil that matches your natural lip color. Use this shade of pencil to line just outside your lips to create a plumper look.
3. A lip pencil one shade deeper than your nude lipstick. Nude lipsticks can blend into your skin tone, making lips seem to disappear. Line lips with this pencil before applying lipstick for stronger definition or after for softer definition.

The Perfect Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

There are two kinds of glasses-wearers in this world: those who swear by one pair and would never stray, and those who collect sunnies like they’re going out of style! No matter which category you fall into, it helps to know which ones flatter you and you style, and which – to put it simply – don’t. If you know what works best for your face shape, shopping gets so much easier. If you don’t already know, determine your face shape, then use this fun guide next time you’re on the hunt for a new pair.
Sunglasses for your face shape
Oval. You may have heard this before, and it’s true – oval faces can get away with most styles, because there’s no need to worry about accentuating too strong or soft of features. But with that comes the desire to go bolder with accessories. Both perfectly circle frames and retro cat-eye glasses will make your face stand out.
Square. For a square shape, you don’t want to go with anything too rectangular or square. Rounded specs with thin frames or aviator styles will soften angular features and elongate your face. Like I talked about in my eyeglasses video from way back when, a fantastic rule for face shapes is that generally the stronger/more pronounced your facial features are, the softer you’ll want your glasses to be and vice versa.
Round. So, with a round face shape, you want to avoid anything too round in order to complement your features. Rectangle or wayfarer sunglasses like TOMS Beachmaster sunnies can help balance your look while oversized square and hexagonal sunglasses make more of a statement.
Heart. The only rule with heart shaped faces is to make sure the look isn’t “too much” to pair with your strong jaw line and high cheek bones, especially if you have bangs. Glasses of any shape can look amazing, but rimless or partially rimless pairs like these cool semi-rimmed round glasses or cat-eye club masters will flatter any heart shaped face.
Diamond. Like ovals, diamond shapes often can get away with different types of glasses, though they should to keep in mind prominent facial features like a strong jaw. Wayfarer glasses with thick rims and even cute heart shaped glasses will make your peepers pop if you are of a diamond face shape.
Like I said, this is only a guide – you never truly know what look suits you best until you experiment with a few different styles!

Ways to Reimagine Your White T-Shirt

With another fashion week come and gone, who doesn’t want to rush to the mall for a whole new wardrobe? As tempting as this is, it isn’t always the best way to curb spending beyond your means. Instead, why not reimagine something you already have and love? Or, if you really do need to get out and buy new clothes, take this time to invest in one of the most important basics you’ll ever own: the white tee.

how to style a white t-shirt

Mossimo boyfriend crewneck, boden scoop neck, J. Crew cotton v-neck tee, Madewell slub crewneck, Topshop pocket T, boden high neckline

Having a comfortable, cute and functional white tee is just as essential as your undergarments and bras. It’s the first building block in a conscious wardrobe. But let’s face it, wearing a T-shirt and jeans everyday doesn’t exactly scream fashion forward. So in the interest of creating something new with what you already have, here are a few of my favorite classically chic ways to style a white tee:

6 ways to reimagine your white t-shirt

1. Tuck it in. Sometimes trends of the years past ought to stay in the past, but sometimes they become timeless tricks for creating something out of nothing! Tucking your crew or v-neck into high waist jeans or partially tucking a slub-neck makes a basic top go from looking like an afterthought to intentional.

2. Make it sexy. Yes, it is possible to make your white tee a little sexy. If your top is thin or slightly sheer, forgo your undershirt to add intrigue in a tasteful way. But if that’s too much, you can still make it more flirty by layering over a lacy tank or colorful bandeau. You’re walking a fine line here, so it may take some tweaking before you get the combo quite right!

3. Change up your pants game. Those of you who have reservations about going too bold with fashion can see this as an entry into the world of prints because a white tee is going to balance out your look so you don’t feel too out of our comfort zone while experimenting. No need to worry whether a funky print or flowing material will clash or look frumpy – the white tee can be worn with any pair. PS – Same goes for skirts too! Pencil skirts in particular pair perfectly with basic tees no matter the print.

4. White out. Conversely, a fabulous way to reimagine the basics is to pair things you normally wouldn’t. White on white or any sort of matchy-matchy monochromatic look will instantly break you out of your closet rut. It’s simple, yet not something you see everyday.

5. Tie it up. Another 90s trend, the basic side tie, can take a worn tee and make it more fitted, as well as be a playful way of showing midriff in the summertime. Make a small knot on one of the front sides so the trim of your top is slightly asymmetrical, then pair with a denim vest or moto jacket to add an edgy spin.

6. Make a statement. Similar to printed pants, statement jewels are another way to step up an otherwise plain outfit. For spring, think bib collar necklaces or bright drop earrings to shift the focus from your tee to your accessory. Again, this balances out your look while offering that oomph a white tee doesn’t normally have.

Top Beauty Trends For Spring 2015

As much as I love checking out all the beauty looks that celebrities are wearing, it’s the runway—not the red carpet—where most trends are really born. (And before that, it’s often the street. Welcome to the beauty circle of life.)

Now that New York Fashion Week has come to a close, I’ve had some time to reflect on all the beauty ideas emerging for spring—although of course, we don’t have to wait that long. We can start wearing them right now! And honestly? This is one of the most eclectic and creative seasons in memory, and I’m super-excited about all of these looks.

I’ve narrowed it down to 10 key trends that you should start looking out for. Some may seem extreme in their runway form (hello, Rodarte!), but remember that everything is exaggerated to the extreme on the catwalk.

From bright shadow colours to natural nail art, here’s your New York beauty briefing:

BARE-FACED BEAUTY

Marc Jacobs sent his models out with NO makeup, save for concealer and lip balm. And I have to laugh, because only in fashion could the makeup artist decide he’s not going to work, and still get paid!

But the broader message here is that real skin is IN. In seasons past it was all about matte or dewy, but always perfected with foundation, concealer and powder. Now, it’s more about being real. And I think that’s a great trend to embrace. (Certainly, it’s more achievable!)

Besides MJ, this look was also seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang. At those shows, the makeup played with light and contour so that the skin was bare, but still sculpted. A great product that I like for this trend is the new NARS Contour Blush… it’s very tone-on-tone.

8 Ways to Spend Less on Back-to-School Shopping

Back-to-school shopping is an inevitable part of life for people with kids. Between school supplies, backpacks, new clothes and other necessities, the costs can really add up, especially if you have more than one child. These tips will help you save money where you can so your kids can have a great back-to-school experience without breaking the bank.

1. Shop Consignment Sales

Where I live, there are several great consignment sales throughout the year that offer gently used clothing for kids of all ages at greatly reduced prices. This works best for younger kids who aren’t brand-loyal, but with some hunting you can even find things that older kids will be happy with (you may need to play up that buying used is eco-friendly, or head to a vintage shop to make buying used more fun for older kids).
Consignment shops and thrift stores can also be a great source of clothing. Like your favorites on Facebook and they’ll let you know when the super-bargain days are. One shop here has days where everything is half off, which means you can score some really excellent deals.

2. Get it Tax Free

Many states have tax-free weekends where you can buy clothing and school supplies without having to pay sales tax. Yes, you’ll have to fight everyone else who’s shopping on those precious days, but if you’re the sort of person who likes the Black Friday spirit, you can score some good deals.
Some stores have special sales on tax-free weekends, making it even more worth your while to head out.

3. Comparison Shop

Everyone from superstores to the grocery store to the dollar store seems to sell school supplies at back-to-school time, and they often have a couple of items that are really cheap. If you have time to go to several stores, you can score the best deals at each one—nabbing the 10 cent crayons at one place and the two for a dollar notebooks elsewhere.
If that’s not an option for you, investigate if any of the stores do price matching, where you can bring in an ad from another store and get their low price where you are shopping. That can save you a lot of time and effort (not to mention gas money).

4. Sign up for Emails or Like Shops on Facebook

If you’re looking for clothing deals, sign up for emails and like you favorite shops on Facebook. Then you’ll know when the things you need are on sale and when new clearance items are added. It may be worth it to wait a couple of weeks into the school year to buy some items if they’re likely to be on sale in the new future.

5. Stock up at Clearance Sales

Speaking of sales, the end-of-summer sales and clearance racks that are regular fixtures at some stores can be your best friends. Summer stuff goes on sale long before the winter stuff is needed, so you can buy some new things that can be used right away. Or shop when the clothing is a little off-season if you can predict what size your child might be the next time that season rolls around. I’ve bought clothing marked down to a couple of dollars or less because it was deep in the wrong season.

6. Don’t Buy Too Much

It’s really tempting, especially when you’re getting a good deal, to buy a ton of new stuff, but if your kid isn’t likely to go through more than two boxes of crayons in a year, it’s a waste of money to buy more. What’s more, you’ll have to find a place to store it in the meantime, remember where you put it when it is needed and so on. It’s not really worth it to go off-list or buy duplicates of things that aren’t likely to be used in the near future.

7. Use What You Have

If you are the sort of person who tends to buy too much, make sure you check the house for items your child could use before you shop. I buy a ton of notebooks every year, and there are usually some left over, for instance. You may also find that some of last year’s clothing, like jeans and sweaters, may still be useable if your child hasn’t grown too much. Shop at home first.

8. Personalize What You Can

If some of those old clothes fit fine but aren’t looking great, think about how you might alter them to make them better than new. You can add patches to cover holes or stains, add embroidery, dye shirts, or if you have some sewing skills, even turn a dress into a skirt or take in the sides of a boxy shirt to make it more form-fitting.
Likewise with the school supplies: washi tape is cheap and makes everything cuter.
