There are two kinds of glasses-wearers in this world: those who swear by one pair and would never stray, and those who collect sunnies like they’re going out of style! No matter which category you fall into, it helps to know which ones flatter you and you style, and which – to put it simply – don’t. If you know what works best for your face shape, shopping gets so much easier. Oval. You may have heard this before, and it’s true – oval faces can get away with most styles, because there’s no need to worry about accentuating too strong or soft of features. Square. For a square shape, you don’t want to go with anything too rectangular or square. Rounded specs with thin frames or aviator styles will soften angular features and elongate your face. Like I talked about in my eyeglasses video from way back when, a fantastic rule for face shapes is that generally the stronger/more pronounced your facial features are, the softer you’ll want your glasses to be and vice versa.

Round. So, with a round face shape, you want to avoid anything too round in order to complement your features. Rectangle or wayfarer sunglasses like TOMS Beachmaster sunnies can help balance your look while oversized square and hexagonal sunglasses make more of a statement.

Heart. The only rule with heart shaped faces is to make sure the look isn’t “too much” to pair with your strong jaw line and high cheek bones, especially if you have bangs. Glasses of any shape can look amazing, but rimless or partially rimless pairs like these cool semi-rimmed round glasses or cat-eye club masters will flatter any heart shaped face.

Diamond. Like ovals, diamond shapes often can get away with different types of glasses, though they should to keep in mind prominent facial features like a strong jaw. Wayfarer glasses with thick rims and even cute heart shaped glasses will make your peepers pop if you are of a diamond face shape.

Like I said, this is only a guide – you never truly know what look suits you best until you experiment with a few different styles!

Going off of the prism shapes in the lenses, there are other ways to get the look. They’re space age meets 1990’s (the prismatic eye shadow and shimmer polish were featured in my 90’s video) and you can basically guarantee that you’ll be the only one in the room rocking them. One of my obsessions is the coin purse from .G Malou designs. This European brand is full of holographic bags, geometric jewelry and shiny accents to satisfy my prismatic mood. Another Etsy shop, 416am captures the beautiful light of prisms with geometric drop earrings and even the galaxy look, triangle shape and moon phases with these tats.

Just because it’s crazy hot (I don’t know about where you live but temps have hit 90 in both Los Angeles and New York this summer) doesn’t mean all is lost in beauty and fashion. Your daily routine probably consists mostly of staying cool and lathering yourself in SPF—sunscreen is your best friend after all—but a few pieces do exist to highlight your personalized style, without contributing to a meltdown. Enter sheer. Semi sheer fabrics like chiffon, organza and lace overlays are sure to give your closet a makeover, and most importantly, your skin a breather.

Sheer Dresses – As with most things sheer, there’s a thin line between flirty and straight up revealing. You want something light and airy that’s even a little daring, just not so much that it looks like a cover up without the swimsuit underneath, if you catch my drift (no pun intended). The sheer bubble skirt on the above mini dress, the lace on the sleeve and chest, or the sheer panels on the romper all have that feminine, flirty look. Dresses like this can be rocked at everything from a cocktail party to a beach bonfire, depending on how dressy you want to get. It’s summer – if you feel like dressing up, go for it!

Sheer Skirts – One of the most common types of sheer skirt is the maxi with the solid lining and transparent or lacy overlay. The overlay keeps it from looking as formal as the length might suggest, and it’s the quintessential breezy, beachy look. At the same time, all you have to do is tuck in a long sleeve sweater and this same skirt can be worn well into fall. If sheer fabric is too dramatic for you here, try a skirt where both the lining and overlay drop all the way to the hemline. It’s airy, but full coverage.

Sheer Tops – Gone are the days when the only sheer tops you could find were stuffy oversized blouses from the 90s. When it comes to tops you have a ton of options, like lace lined tunics or panel-blocked tank tops. But the best way to rock a sheer top? A kimono. The kimono look is ideal for transitional weather. It’s perfect for throwing on. A sheer kimono is essential for warm weather and the way to go if you have a cute top on underneath you want to show off.

As much of an adventure as summer can be, when fall rolls around, I’m usually ready to store away the daring swimsuit and short shorts in favor of cozy sweaters and a more smoldering beauty look. You can also trade in nudes for black when it comes to fringe and accessories. Instead of strappy sandals, try boots. Lastly, layer your printed kimono or lace shrug over long sleeves in winter and spring. Voila!

Tousled Waves – AKA, that gorgeous, slightly messy beach hair. Once you’ve mastered those essential beachy waves, there is no going back. They look good any day, any month, with any outfit. Even a fabulous ‘do can get boring, so try switching it up throughout the year – but there’s no reason not to keep the undone, tousled tresses on rotation.

Bold Accessories – While the definition of “bold” in summer usually means neon statement necklaces and trendy sunglasses, there IS a way to translate your vibe into fall and beyond. Maintain that same confidence in other months with chunky layered jewelry or even hats and footwear.
