9 TIPS FOR SAVING MONEY USING ONLINE COUPONS

A few years back, when things were extra tight financially, I decided I could either go out and get a second job to make more money, OR invest my time in ways to SAVE money instead. I chose the latter. I started with clipping coupons from the Sunday paper then soon moved on to weekly circulars that came in the mail and select magazines. I ultimately became quite the “coupon queen” (see my post “My Best Couponing Tip…From A Former Coupon Queen“) and saved a LOT of money.

In the last couple of years I haven’t had the time to devote to coupon clipping that I used to, but since I tend to order a LOT of things online (one of the realities of living in a small town) I have become fairly well-versed in the benefits of ONLINE coupons! Another GREAT way to save some $$!

Since the holiday shopping season is right around the corner…I thought it might be a good time to post some tips on how to save money using coupon codes.

In my opinion, holiday shopping online is a no-brainer! You can research your purchases, comparison shop, get promo codes without coupon clipping, and have it all shipped to your front door—even gift wrapped! I think you know where the vast majority of MY holiday shopping will be done! :-)


Always check a coupon database before you buy.

If you’re shopping online and don’t already have a coupon code, no worries, you can almost always find one at an online coupon database like Coupon4share

Coupon4share organizes thousands of online coupons for retailers like Ebay, FTD, Petsmart, Target, Macy’s, Old Navy, The Home Depot, 1-800 Flowers and more, then goes ones step further and compares them against each other, showing you a ranked list of the best deals based on the budget you entered. How to Do Allover Color



To get the exact results you want, pore over the "before" shades on the box labels when shopping—and make sure your starter color is a match.
Total Time Needed: About one hour

Step 1: Don't wash hair for two days before you dye—you want your scalp's natural oils to act as a barrier against irritation, says Clairol Professional celebrity colorist Kiyah Wright. Step 2: Do a strand test first by applying color on a small section. This will help you work out timing. Your hair texture will factor in here: The finer it is, the faster it'll lighten—you may need five to 10 minutes less than the box says; if you have coarse or dry hair, you can go by the recommended time.



Step 3: Read, reread, and follow the box instructions to a T. (Exception: Don't apply color from roots to ends in one go; see step 4.)

Step 4: This tip helps get even color every time when you're dyeing your whole head: First, apply dye a half-inch away from your scalp and work toward ends (the heat from your head makes the color develop faster at the root). Then, halfway through the processing time, go back and cover your roots.

Makeup Mistake: Holding Your Brush the Wrong Way


When applying foundation with a brush, hold the very end of it. You will have slightly less control but a much softer touch that'll give you a more natural finish. Bonus tip: Use one pump of liquid foundation for sheer coverage and two pumps for medium.

Makeup Mistake: Powdering Without a Plan

But that doesn'tmean you should go nuts and put it everywhere. Makeup Mistake: Using Too Much Concealer

With concealer, you want to get the most coverage with the least amount of product. Use your finger in a tapping motion to build thin layers of concealer under your eyes, close to your nose. Makeup Mistake: Not Really Cleaning Your Brushes


Creamy products like foundation and eyeliner build up in your makeup tools, and brush cleansers, soap, and shampoo don't always get it all out. Instead, put several drops of waterproof eye makeup remover into a cup or the palm of your hand. Swirl the brush in it to loosen old makeup. 



Rinse. Then, swirl the brush in a drop of face wash to remove the makeup and remover. Rinse again. Extra credit: Comb through the brush with a fine-tooth comb to remove even more product.

Makeup Mistake: Putting Blush in the Wrong Place
